The Snapi wizard applicationruby on railsThe RNIB knows that technology can be both a huge hindrance and a great help to the blind and partially-sighted community, and part of their role is to make technology accessible to those with sight problems.

Recently, Mango Swiss was asked to create the website for SNAPI, a new system which allows partially-sighted users to record and edit their own preferences for how they would like to view information on any SNAPI-enabled terminal.

The site, which itself complies with RNIB guidelines on accessibility, is a secure user-application website built with Ruby on Rails (the language behind Twitter), that acts as the main portal for the partially-sighted user to log in and control their preferences, from font size and colour schemes to audio options. Profile information is then transferred to the user's travel concession card, allowing them to use the card to access other SNAP terminals and view sites the way they have chosen.

The system is due to go into full production soon, and we are already working on further website development.
