 | The RNIB knows that technology can be both a huge hindrance and a
great help to the blind and partially-sighted community, and part of
their role is to make technology accessible to those with sight
problems. Recently, Mango Swiss was asked to create the website
for SNAPI, a new system which allows partially-sighted users to record
and edit their own preferences for how they would like to view
information on any SNAPI-enabled terminal. The site, which itself
complies with RNIB guidelines on accessibility, is a secure
user-application website built with Ruby on Rails (the language behind
Twitter), that acts as the main portal for the partially-sighted user
to log in and control their preferences, from font size and colour
schemes to audio options. Profile information is then transferred to
the user's travel concession card, allowing them to use the card to
access other SNAP terminals and view sites the way they have chosen. The system is due to go into full production soon, and we are already working on further website development.

 | Mango Swiss has just designed, built and launched a new website for Chris Snode's
Sports Promotions and Modelling Agency. The former Olympic gold medalist asked us to create a
full searchable facility for more than 500 models. The
site is fully editable via its own Content Management System. Other features include:
• Search by gender and sporting discipline
• Client and admin lightboxes for shortlisting prospects • Cover-flow photo display feature
• Client content editor
• Photo and description editing • Model text-messaging system This was a bespoke site built to a very specific brief. Chris wanted a comprehensive site with a lot of content and useability, but one where the primary reason for the site - finding just the right model - was an easy undertaking for the visitor. | Mango Swiss has been working with Jellyhead 3D since 2002. We
helped them to create their identity and logo, and establish a very
recognisable brand. Now their website is a colourful and active home
from which to promote the amazing work they do creating promotional
costumes, props and models for marketing and entertainment. Their work
has featured on Harry Hill's TV Burp and the latest series of The
Apprentice. Because Jellyhead 3D is a busy business with lots
of new things to show and shout about, they wanted a site they could
update regularly and easily. Showcasing their work in a slick gallery
was also important, as was the need to have business support
functionality such as an online calendar and direct mail facility. We
felt that Joomla! was a perfect fit for Jellyhead 3D, with lots of
bespoke work by us to give the client a unique looking site that kept
the Jellyhead 3D brand and colour pallette strong and lively. View live site

 | The web can be a highly effective medium for artists to show and
promote their work, if the site is designed with sensitivity and care.
When we devised and built the website for artist and ceramicist Jane
Muir we wanted her work to feature strongly, with little else to
distract the eye.
To show off her work as faithfully as possible and to best effect, Jane
commissioned a professional photographer for the site, anorther key element of creating visually-led sites. The quality of
the photography and the deliberately spare design environment created by Mango Swiss have
combined to create a striking artist's space. Like
all successful artists, Jane would rather be in the studio than parked
in front of a laptop, so we also made it quick and easy for her to
update the site herself with new images of her work, and the ability to
add new pages. It was great fun working with such a talented and original artist as Jane.

Hurding and Ferri Website |
|
|
|
| It is an unfortunate fact that the websites of talented tradespeople
often leave a lot to be desired in terms of design and communication.
That's why it was such a pleasure to produce a site for decorating
specialist Hurding & Ferri. Clean and crisp like a newly decorated
room, and neatly and simply written, the Hurding & Ferri site is
intended to reflect the attention to quality and detail that the
company provides to its customers. As well as designing and
building the site, we created the Hurding
& Ferri logo, and arranged their printed stationery,
vehicle livery and signage. The site features a Flash gallery to
showcase Hurding & Ferri's impressive work, and an animated logo
adds a dynamic introduction to the site. Job done. Stick the kettle on.

| Richard Smythe has worked closely with stone for many years. When he
decided to set up his own business, he asked us to write, design and
build a site that would help clients to understand stone and the
stunning products that can be made from it. He also wanted to convey
high-quality stone working as a craft, not just a building process,
creating an engaging and accessible site for retail and commercial
customers. The design focus was on a solid presence, skillfully
finished. Customers can see stone samples close-up, and clear sections on the
site provide instant access to relevant information for commercial
clients and those wishing to view Richard's original fireplace range. We
constructed the site from the ground up, hewn from the web's very own
raw materials, HTML and CSS, shaped and turned into a bespoke website,
and completed with a strong identity and professionally commissioned
photography. An enduring site that conveys the beauty, versatility and permanence of Richard's work.

Illustrations for business |
|
|
|
|

Mango Swiss has a strong heritage in illustration and cartoon work, and we're still happy to whip out our pencils and felt-tip pens at the drop of a mouse. Colourful illustrations can be a great way of communicating complex subjects in business. This series of drawings were prepared for the RNIB, a regular Mango Swiss client, to show some of its accessibility technology in action.

|
|

Book illustrations should complement the writing, not compete with it. A close working relationship with the writer and publisher is essential in deciding where and how illustration will help illuminate the story for the reader. Our illustrators have worked on many book projects for businesses and individual writers, and as well as being mightily talented in their own right, they have a healthy respect for the partnership between prose and pictures. The work shown here is part of a series of 26 drawings for Marion Sharville's children's book of adventure and poetry, The Other Ark.

|
|
Sometimes pictures don't just say a thousand words, they really are the only way to convey information in a way that makes the complicated simple.
Mango Swiss creates technical illustrations and diagrams including user-friendly cartoon-style 'how to' guides, technical line drawings that are faithful down to the last screw, and reliable maps and instructions that won't leave you lost. More examples are available. Just call or drop us an email from here. |

Character and comic book illustrations |
|
|
|
|
We think this example says it all about the quality of our character and comic book work. Our illustrators and writers worked closely with the client, Ben Cave Associates, to come up with this eye-catching story intended to convey a very complex subject around healthcare professionals working together under the new Strategic Environmental Assessment Directive... Actually, we've said, enough. We'll leave it to Health Girl to pick up the story... ![Health Girl Comic Book Story [click to enlarge] Health Girl](/images/stories/illustration/healthe_girl2.jpg) |

TJ's Minigym Poster & CPDI logo |
|
|
|
|

Sometimes subtelty and finesse are not the right approach to design, particularly when it comes to getting the attention of children (and their parents). The poster on the left is from a series of promotional material we illustrated for TJ's Minigym. Bright and colourful, with a wide range of information clearly shown among the busy cartoon style. Our designers and illustrators enjoyed this job almost as much as a trip to TJ's. In contrast, we gave the Crystal Palace Diving Institute a more classic look and feel, reminiscent of a swimming badge from the 30s and the area's long association with pool sports. The badge features smooth, aqualine illustrations, deep blue colouring and fonts that enhance the period feel.

Identity and logo development |
|
|
|
|
When logos and identities are created, it's important to provide clients with a range of development ideas from which the final imagery can be defined. Shown here are some of our initial development ideas for the Sustainable Services identity.
Initially it's about getting creative ideas on the table. From there, we can discuss the options and look at how each of them might be applied across different mediums, from print to animation. The final decision will take into account the visual appeal of the logo, its versatility, cost implications for print and other factors. Designers love the development process, because they get to play and be creative. The serious upside of development is that it's a critical stage in making sure that what proceeds to final approval is striking, strong, manageable and marketable.
|
|
Once a final logo is agreed, designing a range of variants presents further creative options. This series of variants for AWP shows the chosen design in a range of colours. The final choice is shown in the business card artwork below. Some variants make it to the final identity for use in specific applications, such as single colour print.

Award-winning design for Women Like Us |
|
|
|
|

Women Like Us is a social enterprise with a very unique offering. They provide recruitment assistance to women professionals who wish to return to work after a period out of the workplace, for example, to bring up children. They also offer highly qualified candidates to organisations who want to employ talented people on terms that suit them both. We worked closely with the WLU team to develop an identity that would reflect their female-oriented business, be informal and accessible in its language and style, and yet show a professional, connected identity that would be taken seriously by mums, employers and government bodies alike.
The identity project included logo and branding, an illustrative theme, clear use of type, and an informal copy style. Applications included a website, stationery, ads, t-shirts, mugs, and printed marketing communications. WLU continues to grow and grow, receiving extensive press coverage for their valuable work. Mango Swiss will continue to provide them with as much support as they need. The leaflet shown on the left, featuring a 'school gate' opening, received the Best Recruitment Advertising award from RecruitRank.

| We have just recently been commissioned to redesign the Crystal Palace
and Norwood Chamber of Commerce identity and logo. Here you can see the
final 3D version which accompanies a full range of stationery and on-going web
work. The brief was to come up with something that really captured the
essence of the original Crystal Palace in both a modern and traditional feel.

|
| 3D
illustration is a detailed and somewhat time-consuming undertaking, but
if you are able to make use of it in multiple ways, it is a versatile
medium that can more than pay for itself in long-term value. Once drawn
it can be cropped, zoomed, rotated, animated and easily updated. It's
the design element that just keeps giving. Our client wanted to
display its UK service centres in a dynamic and modern way, replacing
the simple flat imagery they currently use. They also needed to be able
to quickly add new locations as their business grows. We suggested a 3D
map solution with multiple views and the flexibility to be used online
or in print. Finding a service centre is now an altogether more
enjoyable and interactive experience. Good for their customers; good
for their business. We're currently working in the rest of the UK network. When it's finished, we'll post them here.

| The Qatar First Bank asked Mango Swiss to produce a 3D
version of their 2D logo, to be used as part of their online marketing
programme. We built the model from the existing
logo, extruded it, added Arabic and English text and animation, and
then produced various versions showing the logo from different
perspectives. The final elements were then produced as an Adobe Flash
animation. When the animation stops, the 3D logo returns to its flat
perspective, presenting the viewer with the familiar Qatar First Bank
brand. A very rich and prestigious looking logo that lent itself to a dynamic 3D creation. | | |
|
|

As part of a larger design, identity and website project for Share Think Act, we created a 3D version of their logo. They liked it so much they chose to keep the 3D version as their principal logo and it now features across all of their marketing communications. This form of logo design and build is a very tangible, striking piece that reflects STA's mantra of active engagement on three levels. Visit our web portfolio to see more of the STA identity. |
